Why Templates Need Approval
WhatsApp requires that messages you initiate to customers (like broadcasts) use pre-approved templates. This keeps marketing messages consistent and protects recipients from spam. Once approved, a template can be reused for unlimited campaigns until WhatsApp reviews it again.
Get a Template Approved
- 1
Go to message templates
In the Campaigns dashboard, open "Message Templates". This is where all your approved and pending templates are managed.
- 2
Create a new template
Click "New Template", choose a category such as Marketing or Utility, and give it a clear name. Pick a language that matches your audience.
- 3
Write the body
Draft the message text. Keep it clear, business-focused, and free of spammy or promotional claims. Include an opt-out instruction where relevant, as WhatsApp prefers this.
- 4
Add variables
Add placeholders in the format {{1}}, {{2}} for personal fields like name or order number. These are filled per recipient when the broadcast runs.
- 5
Submit and wait
Submit the template for review. WhatsApp typically responds within a business day. Approved templates appear in your list and are ready to use in campaigns.
Template Approval States
Pending
Your template is with WhatsApp for review. Nothing more is needed from you while it waits.
Approved
The template is ready to use in broadcasts and automations immediately.
Rejected
The template was declined. Edit the text based on the rejection reason and resubmit — the fix is usually a small wording change.
